Summer Fashion Essentials for 2012

By Alexandra Jacobs

Now that the days are getting hotter and school is out of session, it’s time to hit the town in the latest summer fashion trends. There is a lot to admire about 2012’s summer style. The must-haves for the summer include wedges, floppy summer hats, anything red, yellow, or gold, and neon accessories. Whether you’re going to the mall with your friends or heading to check out some Hamptons real estate to pick out the perfect summer get-away, make sure you look like a million bugs with these hot trends.

Maybe the Kentucky Derby has worn off on people, but big, floppy hats are a necessity for summer. Not only do they keep the harmful sun off of your face but they look fabulous. Celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Nicole Richie, and Sarah Jessica Parker have all been seen sporting this fun trend. Though plain-colored straw hats are always sleek, try a hat with a colorful pattern for some extra head-turning style.

The colors for the summer are red, gold, and yellow and color-blocking is a must. Whether it’s a great pair of red Capri pants, a canary yellow cover-up, or tailored gold shorts, bright colors are in. Put away the black and grey and opt for something that will not go unnoticed. Don’t just stop with clothing; make sure your accessories are brightly colored as well, whether it’s a chunky bracelet, a pair of sunglasses, or a great bag.

Perhaps the most important trend of the summer is neon accessories. Neons like bright pinks, yellows, and greens are all the rage from Hollywood to the Hamptons. Grab a neon yellow bag or a pair of hot pink sunglasses, but whatever you do, don’t go anywhere without something bright on. This is a summer of fun and what’s more fun than 80’s-inspired plastic neon shades?
