Cartier Sues HauteLook

According to Reuters’ Jonathan Stempel, Cartier has filed suit against sample sale site HauteLook for over $2 million. Cartier, in its 36-page complaint filed just this Tuesday in Manhattan federal court, asserts that HauteLook is  “causing immediate and irreparable harm to the Cartier brand and trademark,” Cartier alleges that HauteLook has been selling used Cartier watches regardless of the sample sale sites claims to “never sell secondhand merchandise ever.”  Apparently Cartier purchased their watches undercover and even found that some were broken/damaged. From UPDATE 1-Cartier sues “flash” retailer HauteLook over sales

Hautelook did sell pre-owned, vintage Cartier, Piaget, Baume and Mercier watches back in April of this year, as was reported by Fashionista Lab San Francisco on 4/6. The article also went on to state that it was not the first instance HauteLook sold vintage items, “Of course, Haute Look is no stranger to selling second-hand luxury items. From time to time they offer items from Decades Two, the famed vintage shop in Los Angeles, which incidentally, they are today,” so where or why HauteLook states that they do not sell secondhand items we’re not sure.
